On February 24, the European Parliament held an extraordinary plenary session to mark the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
MEPs called on Russia to immediately cease hostilities, withdraw its troops from Ukrainian territory, release detainees and return deported civilians, including children, and stop violating the country’s sovereignty. They also stressed that they would not recognize any Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia as belonging to Russia.
The document stressed the need to provide Ukraine with reliable security guarantees and to deepen the country’s integration with the EU, in particular in preparation for membership in the community.
