Public Council of Integrity Declares Inadmissibility of Interference in Judicial Reform

The Public Council of Integrity addressed the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on investigating possible corruption or corruption-related offenses in law enforcement agencies, courts, and judicial authorities. The PCI calls for not spreading unreliable information and preventing any other forms of influence on the council’s activities.

The expert group at the TIC concluded that the PCI allegedly operates outside the legal framework, creating systemic corruption risks that threaten judicial independence. The Public Council of Integrity has existed since 2016 and operates in accordance with Article 87 of the Law of Ukraine “On the Judiciary and Status of Judges.” The PCI’s goal is to exercise public control over the selection and cleansing of the judicial corps. The organization considers the expert group’s conclusion as an attempt at pressure and calls for refraining from spreading unreliable information, as judicial reform is one of the mandatory conditions for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.
