Same-sex partnerships in Ukraine: how the new Civil Code could legalise discrimination and slow down progress towards EU membership
The authorities present the recodification of the Civil Code of Ukraine as a large-scale and long-overdue reform aimed at modernising private law and bringing it into line with European standards. However, an analysis of the proposed changes in family law shows the opposite: instead of moving forward, Ukraine risks a legally enshrined rollback that directly contradicts human rights, the decision of the European Court of Human Rights, and its obligations within the framework of European integration.
