The Verkhovna Rada has adopted the Law “On Ukraine’s Accession to the Convention on International Access to Justice” (No. 0304) and ratified the Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions (No. 0367)

“For Ukraine, accession to the Convention on International Access to Justice means the creation of additional safeguards for the protection of our citizens’ rights abroad. Ukrainians will be able to seek free legal aid in the states party to the Convention on the same terms as their own citizens. At the same time, this decision strengthens international legal cooperation and is an important step in fulfilling Ukraine’s obligations within the framework of the negotiation process regarding accession to the European Union,” noted Lyudmyla Sugak, Acting Minister of Justice of Ukraine and Deputy Minister of Justice for European Integration.

It is also reported that the ratification of the Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions is a key step towards Ukraine’s membership of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and the fulfilment of the high anti-corruption standards required for EU accession.
